To ring in the Lunar New Year, Canada Post is celebrating the Year of the Dog with special edition stamps.

The stamps will be released Monday, Jan. 15 as part of its 12-year series celebrating the Chinese New Year. Every Chinese year is named for one of the 12 animal signs of the Chinese zodiac. This year will mark Canada Post’s 10th postage stamp issue in its series.

The stamps feature an illustration of a golden dog on a glowing red lantern. In the lower left is the Chinese character for dog, gǒu, in calligraphy.

There will be an unveiling stamps event at the main post office in Vancouver on Monday at 11:15 a.m.  Chinese Consul General Xiaoling Tong, Vancouver Coun. Raymond Louie, Canada Post Director Greg Kabatoff, and the dog stamp designer and illustrator will present at the event.
