Bridgeport Village development inches forward

International Trade Centre part of even bigger plan for area

Development proposal at Duck Island. The land was once industrial and is now slated for residential and commercial purposes

Applicants for the International Trade Centre development have applied for a development permit after December’s public hearing resulted in no voiced concerns over the rezoning on the land near Bridgeport.

GBL Architects submitted its blueprints for a three-tower development, including nine and 12-storey office towers and a 14-storey hotel north of Bridgeport Road at River Road.

The development will compliment what has been called the largest development proposal in Richmond’s history – that of Duck Island, next to the River Rock Casino and Resort.

The centre is striving for LEED Silver energy efficiency via water and electricity savings measures. Green roofs will help mitigate the “urban heat island effect.”

Meanwhile, the “Bridgeport Village” area may have taken another step to expanding as Mayfair Commercial Real Estate Advisors announced the sale of 9311 River Road.

The six-acre parcel next to the Canada Line bridge sold for an undisclosed price according to Mayfair president Lawrence Lim.

He said development speculation may play a role as the lot is situated between the casino and recently built Parc Riviera condo development.
