If a bait car is stolen in Richmond, you can expect an immediate response – a few minutes or so.
That’s all it took for multiple police units across the city to leap into action after an aforementioned bait car was stolen just after midnight on Sunday, Oct. 15.
Shortly after the “bait” was taken in the Jones Road area – near Blundell Road, between Garden City and No. 3 roads - the suspects drove a short distance before they abandoned the vehicle.
It was then that coordinated efforts of Richmond RCMP, the Lower Mainland District Integrated Police Dog Service (IPDS) and Air One arrested two males before they were able leave the neighbourhood.
The suspects, a 30 year old male from Surrey, and a 30 year old male from Langley, are known to police. Charges, say police, are pending.
“Officers were able to quickly locate the suspects through the successful use of integrated police units in our community,” said Richmond RCMP’s Const. Jon Francis.
“The combined response, and specifically police service dog Faulk, likely made a lasting impression on the suspects.
“Bait cars are everywhere Richmond and we are ready to respond. No car thief should ever feel safe in our community. If you steal a bait car, expect to get arrested.”
Bait cars are regularly deployed in Richmond and are installed with state-of-the-art technology and are closely monitored by police.
