A Richmond and Vancouver joint lacrosse team won first place in a recent field lacrosse league championship this past weekend.

The RichVan team, players from both the Richmond Lacrosse and Vancouver Lacrosse associations, won the Pacific Coast Field Lacrosse YU15 Tier 2 Red championship title in the U15 division.

RichVan beat Port Coquitlam 6-4 in a league final game on Feb. 12 at Minoru Arena.

The team won under the guidance of young coaches Josh Fenske, Jake Spare, Keegan Okino and Ben Spare.

The two lacrosse associations merged a few seasons ago to keep the numbers of young athletes in the sport up.

Meanwhile, the B.C. Field Lacrosse Provincials will be held in Richmond from Feb. 16 to 19.

The championships will see 49 lacrosse teams from across the province taking over Minoru Park and Richmond Secondary to compete for the winning title.

Athletes in U13, U15, U17 and U19 divisions will be taking part in the championships. The Richmond/Vancouver U15 and U17 teams will also be taking part this weekend in the field lacrosse competition.

Games start on Friday at noon and will run until Monday when the gold medal games will take place between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
