Richmond Special Olympics athletes shine at March Madness regional qualifiers

Three Richmond Ravens basketball players were named MVPs.

Two Richmond basketball teams came home victorious after a busy weekend at the regional qualifiers for the 2025 Special Olympics BC Summer Games.

Richmond Ravens' Division B team impressed by ranking second place in Division A, losing to the Kelowna team 27-21.

Meanwhile, the Ravens' Division C1 team came first in its region and third overall after winning against the North Vancouver team.

The best part of the tournament, said coach Gee On Lee, was that five Ravens athletes were chosen for the All-Stars game and three were honoured as top players.

Jason Gubbels and Errol Hui played in the Division C game, while Cullen Yee, Nicky Chow and Philip Jurkiewicz were tapped for the unified Divisions A and B game.

The Division A MVP honour went to Chow, while Gubbels and Jurkiewicz were named top offensive players.

The annual March Madness tournament took place from March 23 to 24 at Sutherland secondary in North Vancouver.
