Video: Vehicle fire caused black plumes in east Richmond on Wednesday morning

An alleged explosion was heard by a couple of Hamilton residents

Residents of the Hamilton neighbourhood and motorists on Highway 91A were greeted by black smoke in the sky on Wednesday morning.

According to the Richmond RCMP, a vehicle was on fire in the 23500 block of Gilley Road, between Smith Crescent and Highway 91A.

Residents in the area posted about the smoke on social media, while a couple of people allegedly heard an explosion that made them “jump out of (their) skin.”

“At this time, there has been no connection to any other investigation,” said Cpl. Ian Henderson, spokesperson for the Richmond RCMP, adding that no other details are available at the moment.

The Richmond News has reached out to the Richmond Fire-Rescue for comment.
