Conservative candidate Kenny Chiu is thankful for being able to reunite with his dog after his home was broken into on Thanksgiving Monday.

Chiu returned to a “ransacked home” after attending a volunteer appreciation Thanksgiving dinner and found his dog, Nugget, had disappeared on Monday night.

He described the incident as “concerning” and “scary,” when they couldn’t locate Nugget.

The home’s security features were destroyed and disabled which allowed the culprits access to the back of the house.

Luckily, the same RCMP officer who showed up to the break-in call had also attended to an earlier report of a wandering dog in the neighbourhood.

“When she told us that, we were ecstatic and so happy,” said Chiu, adding that he and his family were still a little shaken up by the event.

The Regional Animal Protection Society (RAPS), which was looking after the dog, was delighted to see Chiu and his family first thing Tuesday morning to pick up Nugget.

“We are so happy, and so is Nugget that RAPS could help reunite the family this morning,” said RAPS Animal Hospital in a Facebook post.

Chiu said that he is just happy his two daughters, his wife and his 82-year-old mother were not in the house to face the thieves.

“I’m just counting my blessings – my family is good and Nugget is back.”
