Out and About: Richmond dogs pose for pictures on bumpers

Richmond Fire-Rescue makes more than 100 educational presentations a year.

One of the fun events —that also works as a community outreach and education program for Richmond Fire-Rescue— is the annual Pet Photo Shoot.

This year’s theme was Dogs on Bumpers.

I attended the event and was very impressed with the organization and the positive spirit of both staff and public.

The event ended a very successful 60-day photo campaign encouraging members of the public to submit pictures of their dogs on fire truck bumpers, which Richmond Fire-Rescue posted on its social media channels.

As the promotion piece describes it — the “family’s furry, feathery, and scaly members” are welcome. Photos were done by skilled Richmond Fire-Safety staff and were free.

Many people also brought their own cameras or phones to make their own images.

The event was easy-going and family-friendly — most people brought both children and pets.

A shiny red fire truck provided an excellent back drop for the portraits of pets and family members.

The event was part of the Richmond Fire-Rescue’s community outreach and education program.

Each year, more than 100 educational presentations are made by staff to elementary and secondary schools, as well as to community and seniors groups.

The Richmond Fire-Safety educator team is available for fire safety presentations and fire hall tours (both are recommended for ages 5+).
