If you have difficulties finding the popular pancake breakfast and hotdog lunch at the Steveston Salmon Festival this year, don’t worry, it’s not gone; it’s just moved to a new location.

Previously located in front of the Steveston Martial Arts Centre, the breakfast has been moved to the waterpark area this year, on the west side of Steveston Community Centre.

Offered by Steveston Rotary Club, the fundraising vendor will provide pancakes and sausages at 6:30 a.m. and hotdogs at around lunch time at the festival.

“It is the organizer’s choice. They thought it would be great to be near the children’s playground; There’s going to be a lot of kids, said Lee Bennett, past president of Steveston Rotary.

“And they want us to have our own area. It should be a good location in that regards.”

Many of the ingredients will be donated by local supermarkets or grocery stores, and all the money made will go to the Rotary’s charities in Steveston and other areas in Richmond, according to Bennett.

“We did the lunch last year and it was a great success, so we want to have the same success this year; raise some money and have some fun,” he said.

Bring your own dishes

This year, the Yes You Can! campaign will continue to encourage people to bring their own dishes and cutlery to the Steveston Salmon Festival.

The festival’s environment committee hopes all people will use their own utensils instead of disposable ones for a “zero waste” goal.

An environment booth stationed next to the salmon barbeque will be entering those who show they’ve brought their own dishes into a prize draw.

Winners will be announced by phone, email or presented at the booth at 5 p.m. and receive prizes donated by the Richmond Environmental Programs.

Although most waste from the festival gets recycled, the environment committee of the festival said that they believe reducing waste is still the best solution for the environment.
