The City of Richmond, Richmond School District and the David Suzuki Foundation partnered for the second annual REaDY summit, a youth summit to celebrate Earth Day. The event was held Saturday morning at Steveston-London secondary school.

Planning for the future is the theme for the Richmond Earth Day Youth (REaDY) Summit taking place on Saturday, April 18 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Now in its fourth year, the REaDY Summit is a free, youth-led conference promoting environmental awareness and action through motivational speakers and inspiring workshops. It takes place at Hugh Boyd secondary, 9200 No. 1 Road.

The summit is targeted towards youth from Richmond’s schools but is also open to participants of all ages throughout Metro Vancouver.

This year’s conference includes:

Three keynote speakers who are all inspiring youth environmental leaders: Tesicca Truong, named Canada’s Top 25 environmentalists under 25; Veronika Bylicki, director of UBC’s largest student-run sustainability organization, Common Energy, and a former TEDx presenter and Alice Xu, environmental organizer and public outreach coordinator.

A live demonstration will take place, showcasing birds of prey that live in our region and how we can promote the conservation of these magnificent birds, which include owls, hawks and falcons.

Although admission is free, pre-registration is encouraged. For more information, visit www.readysummit.ca.
