Just in time to enjoy those warm, summer nights, Richmond will see a new park opening this month.
On July 19, a celebration is scheduled to mark the opening of Aberdeen Park – a new city-run greenspace near Aberdeen Centre.
Design for the park was inspired by a “Zen garden” motif and aims to provide immersive spaces for quiet contemplation and passive recreation. Materials selected are expected to represent Zhengzhou and China such as bamboo, stone and native plants.
Expected features include a basketball court, an enclosed structure to provide shelter and house recreation activities, an open-air pavilion, a pond with bridge crossing, seating walls and a playground.
The opening event will include an outdoor screening of the Disney movie Moana, children’s entertainment, local food trucks and a welcome speech from Mayor Malcolm Brodie.
The event begins at 7 p.m. and the movie is scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m. at 8331 Cambie Rd.
