Halloween tips from Richmond RCMP

Be safe out there with the ghosts and goblins

Halloween only comes once a year and the excitement of a bag full of candy can cause kids to forget the regular safety precautions they use every day.

For that reason, Richmond RCMP has compiled a few tips and tricks to keep ghosts and goblins safe this Halloween.

* Make it a party and trick-or-treat in groups: Younger children should be accompanied by an adult or guardian;

* Stay visible: Stay on the sidewalk or the shoulder facing traffic and use a flashlight to see where you are going;

* Try to incorporate clothing with reflective markings into your costume, or jazz up your costume with flashing lights or reflective tape;

* Stranger danger: Stick to familiar neighbourhoods and only approach houses which have the outside lights turned on. Avoid entering a stranger’s home or car for a treat;

* Fireworks not required, stick to the treats: Every Halloween, hospital emergency rooms prepare to treat both children and adults for firework-associated injuries.

“The Richmond RCMP is committed to the safety of our community,” said Const. Jon Francis.

“Extra officers will be conducting patrols in our neighbourhoods to make sure everyone can enjoy a safe and spooktacular evening.”
