Honeymoon Suite, a Canadian hard rock band with more than 30 years of history, is ready to shake the stage at Easthope Avenue at the Steveston Salmon Festival.

During the one-and-half-hour show, the band will play all of their hit songs such as New Girl Now and Feeling It Again for long-time fans and people who have yet to know them.

“I’m very excited. It will be our first time to perform in Steveston. We’ve heard it’s a nice town. Maybe we will eat some nice salmon there,” said Derry Grehan, lead guitar and song writer.

“We are lucky that we have a lot of hits in Canada. For the people that know our band, they will come and hear all the hit songs. And some of the younger fans, I guess they don’t know the music, but at the end of the show they will.”

Honeymoon Suite was formed in Niagara Falls in 1981. The band’s name was a nod to the fact that Niagara Falls is a popular honeymoon destination.

It has released four albums and has since performed all over the world in venues across North America, Europe and Asia.

Band members have changed over the years, but about 10 years ago Grehan put the original members back together.

“It’s been fantastic. Everybody is happy and healthy. It’s the best it’s ever been,” said Grehan.

He added the band performs at a lot of outdoor festivals in the summer and it’s very rewarding to see the crowd enjoying their show.

“People are still there after all these years. We are lucky we are still doing it; we still have our songs out on the radio. There are not many bands left that can say that,” he said.

For Grehan, the performance is more special than any others he has done in the past because his 16-year-old daughter, Leah Marlene, is going to perform songs written by herself on the same stage.

“The organizer was nice enough to let her have a 20-minute slot to perform earlier on in the day. That’s going to be a lot of fun. It will be a treat for her,” said Grehan.

Honeymoon Suite will hit the main stage at 5 p.m. on July 1.
