Wins over Burnaby South, Handsworth and Burnaby North earned the McMath Wildcats the Vancouver and District Juvenile Girls Volleyball Championship on Thursday.

McMath Wildcats have added their second title in as many weeks, this time capturing the Vancouver and District Championship on Thursday at Burnaby North Secondary.

The tournament brings together the top finishers from the Richmond, North Shore and Burnaby/New West Leagues.

Fresh off their city triumph, the Wildcats rolled to three straight victories — all by 2-0 margins.

An opening win over Burnaby South set-up a much anticipated semi-final match with North Shore champion and unbeaten Handsworth.

McMath came out strong with hard serves, aggressive attacks and blocks by Caitlin Kippan and Marina Radocaj to lead the Steveston school to a convincing 25-9 and 25-17 triumph.

The run was then completed with 25-17 and 25-18 wins over host Burnaby North — champions of the Burnaby/New West League. Maya Zawislak scored the winning point with a great hit from the outside.

Richmond runners-up MacNeill bowed out with a tight 2-1 loss to St. Thomas Aquanis (STA). Third place finisher Burnett advanced to the main draw with a 3-1 victory over Seycove before falling to Burnaby North, 2-0.

Elsewhere, host McRoberts reached the final of the V&D Juvenile Girls Championship before being trimmed 2-1 by North Shore champion STA.

The Strikers had defeated Burnaby South (2-0) and Handsworth (2-1) to advance.

McMath reached the semis before falling 2-1 to STA.

The McNair Marlins dropped a 2-0 decision to STA in the quarter-finals.

At the V&D Junior Girls Championships in North Vancouver, McRoberts took third place with a 2-1 win over STA. City champion McMath was trimmed 2-1 by STA in the quarter-finals.

Handsworth defeated Burnaby Central 2-1 in the final.

McRoberts Strikers are V&D Junior Boys champions after their thrilling 3-2 win over host Richmond Christian in the all-city final.

The Strikers advanced with a 3-2 win Burnaby/New West League champion Burnaby Mountain while Richmond Christian defeated Moscrop 3-1.
