McMath Wildcats continued their impressive post-season run — capturing the Vancouver and District Juvenile Girls Basketball Championship in convincing fashion.

Fresh off their triumph at the Richmond playoffs, the Wildcats rolled to three straight victories including 55-31 win against North Shore champion and host Seycove in the championship game on Tuesday.

McMath had opened the tournament with a 58-23 win against Handsworth, then took care of Burnaby/New West champion Burnaby Mountain, 61-42.

This talented group, coached by Rod Jensen, will now turn its attention to next week’s B.C. Grade 9 Girls Invitational Championships, hosted by Heritage Woods Secondary in Port Moody. The Wildcats will be looking to reach the podium for the second straight year after placing third at the Grade 8 Provincials.

Meanwhile, city runner-up Hugh Boyd settled for fourth place at the V&D playoffs after falling 54-41 to Burnaby Mountain.

The Trojans opened the tournament with an easy 71-22 win against Burnaby South before falling 47-30 to Seycove.

Richmond third place finisher RC Palmer fell 48-25 to Seycove in the quarter-finals.

The B.C. Junior Boys Invitational Championships tip-off on Saturday at the Langley Events Centre with McMath and MacNeill Ravens both in contention.

The city champion and V&D runner-up Wildcats are seeded sixth in the 32-school and will take on the Sa-Hali Sabres at 10 a.m. The Ravens are seeded 13th and face No. 20 Heritage Woods at 11:30 a.m.

The championships continue through Tuesday at the LEC.
