Steveston Karate Club standout leads Richmond medal haul at BC Winter Games

Steveston Karate Club's Haruki Mori on top of the podium at the BC Winter Games in Fort St. John last weekend. He returned home with five medals, including a pair of gold — thriving in Kata and Kumite.

An impressive haul for Steveston Karate Club standout Haruki Mori led the Richmond contingent at last weekend’s BC Winter Games in Fort St. John.

The junior national team member, who is coached by Sensei Toshihide Uchiage, returned home with five medals, including a pair of gold.

Mori was on top of the podium for Individual Advance Kata and Individual Advance Kumite in the +156cm class. 

He then added silver in Individual Advance Kata for open height and another in Team Kata. A bronze in Team Kumite rounded out his busy and productive weekend.

In total, Mori participated in 10 matches — two Kata and eight fights — in less than four hours.

Megan Wu: silver (doubles girls), bronze (team event mixed). Mia Wu: bronze (doubles mixed), bronze (team event mixed). Adrian Zhou: silver (boys singles), bronze (team event mixed). Bobby Chen: bronze (team event mixed). Samantha Cham: bronze (team event mixed).

Judo

Ryu Tamayose: gold (team competition mixed). Ethan Cajigas: gold (team competition mixed), silver: under 60 kg male). Owen Hou: gold (team competition mixed), bronze (under 46 kg male).

Ringette

Tayler Cohen: silver.

Short Track Speed Skating

Roanan Tien-Vidal: silver (1500m boys), silver (3,000m relay boys). Daniel Liu: silver (3,000m relay boys). Quirin Teh: silver (3,000m relay boys).

Long Track Speed Skating

Roanan Tien-Vidal: bronze (7 lap ISU mass start boys).

Figure Skating

Nayali Liu: bronze (juvenile women). Louie Fukuda-Wu: bronze (juvenile men).

Gymnastics

Naomi Tsang: silver (beam women JO 8).
