Richmond Sockeyes were put to work early after Ryleigh Anderson's goal send the plush toys flying to the ice in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Aldergrove Kodiaks on the club's annual Teddy Bear Toss Night. The bears and all proceeds were donated to the Richmond Firefighters Burn Unit.

The fur was flying early on Sunday night at Minoru Arenas.

Ryleigh Anderson’s team-leading 20th goal of the season at the 3:43 mark of the opening period sent plush toys to the ice on the Pacific Junior Hockey League club’s annual Teddy Bear Toss Night that concluded with a 4-2 win over the Aldergrove Kodiaks.

The teddy bears and all 50-50 proceeds were donated to the Richmond Firefighters Burn Unit.

The Sockeyes took control of the contest on second period goals from Nicholas Wilson and Gabriel Parent. Garrett Wicks added an insurance marker in the final frame and Tom Sweeney rounded out the scoring.

Braedy Euerby made 29 saves to improve to 3-2-0-0 since being acquired last month from the Delta Ice Hawks.

Richmond (18-8-1-4) gets back to work on Thursday when the Port Moody Panthers visit Minoru at 7 p.m. The Sockeyes will then play their final game before the holiday break on Friday in Abbotsford against the Pilots.

A two-week layoff should help shorten the team’s lengthy injury list in time for the fifth annual PJHL Winter Classic at Minoru — Jan. 3-5. Richmond will take on the Pilots again on opening night and conclude the showcase event against the league-leading North Vancouver Wolf Pack.
