Richmond Roadrunners outscored the host Delta Islanders 12-2 to erase a four-goal deficit and go on to a 16-12 victory in B.C. Junior B Tier One Lacrosse League action.

The Richmond Roadrunners will take momentum to the provincial capital this weekend after rallying for a key road win over the Delta Islanders.

The Roadrunners moved above .500 (4-3-1) in the B.C. Junior B Tier One Lacrosse League after a 16-12 victory.

Trailing 8-4 midway through the second period, Richmond took over by scoring 12 of the game’s next 14 goals.

It was 9-7 Islanders when Ryan Jensen scored a pair to close out the second period. The momentum carried into the third with Stuart Ahara breaking the deadlock just six seconds into the frame.

Jake Mcintosh put the hosts briefly back on even terms before the Roadrunners scored six straight, including two more from Jensen as they outshot Delta 22-6 in the period.

Jordan Roberts continued his blistering start to the season with a seven point night, including a pair of goals. The McMath grad, who also plays field lacrosse at SFU, now has 22 goals in just six games — already surpassing his total (18) from the entire 2018 campaign.

Jensen finished with four goals and six points while captain Josh Bourne scored twice and added three assists. Liam O’Connor and Ahara each chipped in with a pair. Jaden Leach also scored while Mitchel Ely had three assists.

Riku Jokela made 29 saves for the win.

Richmond takes on the Victoria Shamrocks on Saturday before returning home Wednesday to welcome the Langley Thunder to Minoru Arenas at 8 p.m.
