Richmond dignitaries and politicians of all stripes turned out in force on the weekend to officially open Richmond Tennis Club’s new bubble facility.
For the 60 year old tennis institution, this was the culmination of four years of hard work to replace the 28-year-old bubble.
The new facility was made possible through a BC Capital Gaming Grant ($177K), the City of Richmond ($241K) and via the club’s own savings of $177K.
The opening will allow seniors, juniors, members, non-members and disabled athletes alike to access this new indoor facility with its state of the art lighting, new court surfaces and wheelchair accessible entry.
At the event on Saturday, the dignitaries signed ceremonial tennis balls which will be auctioned off as a club fundraiser.
The club has been an integral part of tennis in the Lower Mainland for almost 60 years and in Minoru Park for over 50 years.
It provides tennis for players of all ages and abilities and hosts the Richmond Open every spring, attracting high level and recreational players for 57 years.
