Richmond City Baseball hosting 13U A Provincial Championships

Tournament gets underway on Thursday at Palmer/Garden City diamonds

B.C. Baseball's 13U A Provincial Championships includes six teams from Vancouver Island. The tournament starts Thursday and concludes Sunday.

Richmond City Baseball will be hosting nine other associations, including six from Vancouver Island, for B.C. Baseball’s 13U A West Provincial Championships starting on Thursday at Palmer/Garden City Park.

The tournament culminates the summer ball season that began in late June with playdowns, leading up to this week’s showcase event.

The host Chuckers open play Thursday morning against Tsawwassen and also will have round-robin games against Nanaimo, Campbell River and Alberni. The other pool group features Burnaby, North Shore, Ladysmith, Oceanside (Parksville) and Victoria.

Round-robin play concludes Saturday afternoon and the top two teams from each group square off in the semi-finals on Sunday morning. The championship game is slated for 1 p.m.

Richmond City turned in a solid showing at B.C. Baseball’s 11U A Championships in Cloverdale last weekend, reaching the semi-finals. The Chuckers fell 13-6 to the host team then dropped an 8-7 heartbreaker to White Rock in the bronze medal game.

Earlier wins came against Ridge Meadows (13-1), Tsawwassen (18-2) and Victoria (15-5) to gain a final four berth.
