Bowen Byram fires home one of his two goals in Saturday's 7-4 win over Kamloops. The Vancouver Giants standout is currently the top rated defenceman for the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.

Bowen Byram’s draft status continues soar after his recording break night on Saturday at the Langley Events Centre.

The 17-year-old set a new single-game franchise record for defenceman with two goals and three assists in a 7-4 win over the Kamloops Blazers in front of 4,200 fans.

The Cranbrook native, who is in his Grade 12 year at South Delta Secondary, went to work just 2:23 into the contest to open the scoring.

He added his second at the 9:05 mark then notched all three helpers in the second period as part of four unanswered goals by Vancouver to break the game wide open.

Bowen now has 38 points in 39 games, ranking him sixth among Western Hockey League blueliners. The 6-foot-1 standout is also the top rated defenceman for June’s NHL Entry Draft.

Milos Roman added a goal and three assists and Davis Koch and Tristen Nielsen each had a goal and two assists for Vancouver.

Between the pipes, Trent Miner stopped 24 of 28 shots.

The win coupled with Victoria’s loss in Everett moved the Giants seven points ahead of Victoria for first place in the B.C. Division standings. The two teams play today (4 p.m.) in Langley.
