MacNeill Ravens basketball program will welcome the 2018-19 season with its fifth annual home opener fundraiser for the B.C. Cancer Foundation on Monday.

Since its inception, the Ravens’ "Stronger than Cancer" event has raised $7,000. Not only is there an action-packed schedule of basketball but a full concession will be in operation and commemorative t-shirts will also be on sale. Admission will be by donation.

There will be a total of seven games — all against the Richmond Colts — concluding with the senior boys at 7:30 p.m.

The senior boys are off to a solid start with wins over King David and John Oliver putting the Ravens in the final at the Kennlyside Classic at Point Grey. The No. 8 ranked Colts and pre-season favourite to win the city title will be a stern test.

MacNeill’s junior boys finished with an impressive 2-1 record at the season-opening Big Ticket Tournament — highlighted by wins over #2 ranked Vancouver College (58-49) and No. 6 St. Georges while narrowly falling to #10 Burnaby South (43-42).

The Grade 8 boys opened their season with an exhibition win over Killarney and are at the Burnaby South Tournament this weekend. The Grade 9s have been training hard this week for their first test of the campaign against Richmond High.

On the girls side, the Grade 8 and Grade 9 teams are at tournaments this weekend while the seniors will make their debut Monday.
