After cruising to the inaugural South Fraser Zone Championship, the McMath Wildcats will be among the top seeds for next week's provincial tournament at the Langley Events Centre.

The McMath Wildcats senior girls basketball team will soon learn its path at the Langley Events Centre next week after cruising to the inaugural South Fraser AAA Zone Championship.

The seven-time Richmond champions closed out the eight-team tournament with an 88-41 win over the Delta Pacers last Thursday. Both teams head to the BC 3A Championships — Feb. 26-29. The draw will be determined on Wednesday with the Wildcats expected to be seeded somewhere in the top four where they have spent the entire season in the provincial rankings.

McMath took control of the South Fraser final by outscoring its Ladner opponent 27-6 in the second quarter. Abby Bodden led a balanced attack with 16 points. Liz Kennedy and Marina Radocaj chipped in with 15 each while Kee Hohlweg (12) and Kate Carkner (11) also hit for double figures.

It was Grade 9 forward Caitlin Kippan earning tournament MVP honours thanks mainly to her work in earlier wins over LA Matheson (102-21) and Queen Elizabeth (111-38).

Bodden, Kennedy and Radocaj were named to the tournament all-star team. The roster also features Caitlin Bradley-Tse, Hope Chan and Quincy Hinds.
