Jessica Jones’ sophomore season is off to an impressive start as a key member of the Simon Fraser University women’s basketball team.

The former McMath standout poured in 17 points Saturday night as SFU rallied for an 82-80 overtime win against Florida Technical Institute Panthers at the D2 Coast to Coast Classic, in Anchorage.

In 37 minutes of playing time, Jones went 5-for-9 beyond the arc as SFU charged its way back from an early 18-point second quarter deficit.

It was the Clan’s fourth straight win and completed a successful two-game stint in Alaska that started with an 82-67 triumph over Hawaii Pacific University on Friday night. Jones chipped in with nine points.

She began the season with a 23-point effort in a 75-70 loss to UC San Diego back on Nov 9.

The former two-time Richmond Senior Girls League MVP helped the Wildcats reach the provincial championship game for the first time in school history in her Grade 12 year before taking her career to Burnaby Mountain.

Next up for SFU is a home court date with Western Washington University on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Montana State visits Thursday at the same time.
