Jets strike gold in Nanaimo and Kelowna

Richmond Pee Wee & Atom A1 hockey teams capture holiday tournaments

The holiday tournament season concluded with big wins on Vancouver Island and in the Okanagan for the Richmond Jets Minor Hockey Association’s rep program.

The Pee Wee A1 Jets capped a perfect run at the Nanaimo Pee Wee Tier One Winter Classic with a 3-0 victory over Chilliwack A1 in Sunday’s championship game. The road to gold included four more wins in round-robin play against Comox (9-0), Cloverdale A1 (8-5), Victoria Racquet Club A1 (6-4) and Nanaimo A1 (12-1).

Head coach Milton Chan’s squad now turns its attention back to Pacific Coast Amateur flight one regular season play where the Jets will look to keep build on their 7-6-0 record.

Meanwhile, the Atom A1 Jets were busy in the Interior capturing the “A” flight in the West Kelowna Atom Development Tournament. 

Five straight victories concluded a thrilling 6-5 overtime triumph against Kelowna in the championship game. 

Richmond received a steady diet of Okanagan competition including earlier wins over Kamloops and West Kelowna.

Shawn Mcquistin’s team also owns a 8-5-1 record in Pacific Coast Amateur’s top flight.
