Sophie Lim-Metz will get her pad across to make one of three big saves during Monday afternoon's shootout to lead the Richmond Jets past the South Delta Storm 3-2 to advance to the Richmond International Bantam AAA title game. The hosts will take on Golden State at 8 p.m. at the Richmond Ice Centre.

Girl power has helped the hometown Bantam A1 Jets reach the championship game at the 39th Richmond Bantam Midget International Hockey Tournament.

Sophie Lim-Metz turned aside all four shots in a shootout as the Jets squeaked past the South Delta Storm 3-2 in this afternoon’s semi-final at the Richmond Ice Centre. The Jets will meet Golden State in tonight’s Bantam AAA title game at 8 p.m. in the RIC Forum Rink.

The Storm equalized late in regulation time with a power play tally and nearly completed the comeback in the five minute overtime period when a goal was waved off for an early whistle after the referee had lost sight of the puck.

That set the stage for Lim-Metz heroics as she made three terrific saves while a fourth South Delta shooter fired the puck over the net. Richmond finally broke the deadlock with its fourth shooter.

Lim-Metz shares the Jets’ cruise duties with Lauren MacKay for a rare all-female tandem at the Bantam A1 level of boys rep hockey.

The final will be a battle of unbeaten teams as Golden State got past North Delta 6-4 in the other semi-final match.

Richmond went 3-0 in earlier round-robin play.

The Midget AAA championship game will see Nanaimo taking on Portland at 7:45 p.m. at Minoru Arenas. The Midget A1 Jets’ run ended with a 7-0 semi-final loss to Nanaimo earlier today.
