Byram leads way at Giants awards banquet

The Vancouver Giants handed out their annual awards on Monday at Tsawwassen Springs with Bowen Byram leading the way.

The top-end prospect for June’s NHL Entry Draft picked up four awards including the P.C. Toigo Most Valuable Player Trophy. The 17-year-old Cranbrook native leads all Western Hockey League defenceman in goals with 26 which includes nine game winners and six in overtime — a new league record.

The Giants secured top spot in the Western Conference for the third time in their history Friday with a 2-1 win over the Kelowna Rockets on Fan Appreciation Night at the Langley Events Centre. They will host Seattle in the opening round of the playoffs with games one and two next Friday and Saturday at the LEC.
