This is a big time of year for high school basketball teams and officials too.

Until Feb. 15 over 700 members of the BC Basketball Officials Association (BCBOA) are being asked to wear pink whistles and lanyards during their games as part of an annual  fundraiser for the BC Cancer Foundation.

The campaign has so for raised over $60,000 since its inception 10 years ago. The milestone anniversary is being commemorated by a pink lapel pin that also is being worn this year.

“Coaches, fans, players and friends have been so amazing in supporting our initiative.

Each of us has been touched in one way or another — so let's hold hands and help others fight,” explained Ladner resident Karn Dhillon, a longtime referee and director of administration for the BCBOA.

A website has been set up through the BC Cancer Foundation for online donations. Tax receipts will be issued.

Donations buckets will also be available at most games.
