The Richmond Sockeyes will be busy at Minoru Arenas this weekend but not with their Pacific Junior Hockey League regular season schedule.
The 47-year-old franchise will be hosting its 17th annual Alumni Game on Saturday at 5:45 p.m.
The entertaining evening serves as a big fundraiser for the club’s highly successful scholarship program that has generated over $230,000 to help players with post-secondary education. The Alumni line-up is expected to feature some players from last year’s Cyclone Taylor Cup championship team. Tickets are $10 and available at the door. A beer garden will also be in operation.
On Sunday, the Sockeyes are using their regular practice time slot to play ringette in a fun exhibition game against the National Ringette League’s BC Thunder. Both teams will be in full equipment for the non-contact tilt.
The Thunder are enjoying an impressive season under first-year Richmond head coach Troy Takasaki and are coming off a four-game split against division leading Edmonton last weekend.
Game time at Minoru at 10 a.m.
