Gas prices to rise

Metro Vancouver gas prices saw a record price hike over the weekend, with prices climbing 11 cents per litre by Sunday.

Dan McTeague, a senior petroleum analyst with GasBuddy.com, tweeted about the rising prices, and noted that they would stay high for a number of days.

On Dec. 14, McTeague tweeted that prices “will rise from 131.9 cts/l to 137.9 at their highest in MetroVan,” on Saturday. As such, he advised that residents heed the warning and fill up their tanks before Saturday. Further, he added that the prices would climb even higher on Sunday.

McTeague noted that the six-cent-per-litre increase would increase overnight on Saturday. He stated that the Lower Mainland would see, “a record price HIKE overnight of 11 CENTS/LITRE for Sunday. Average will climb from 137.9 to 148.9 cts/l and builds on today’s 6 cent a litre increase we predicted Thursday.”

While the prices are still high, McTeague predicts that the prices will drop after Wednesday. As a result, he advises that drivers wait until Thursday to fill up their tanks.
