Dear Editor,

Re: “Maybe we’re the real virus?” Letters, March 29

We are not the virus. COVID-19 is nothing to be celebrated, nor should it be regarded as a force for good.

Eco-fascism is the mindset that a mass culling of the human population is either acceptable or necessary to save the planet.

As an environmentalist myself, I am extremely disappointed and terrified that so many people are adopting this view amid COVID-19, especially when you consider the fact that the people who will be harmed most by the outbreak will be disabled people, poor people, people of colour and anyone from any marginalized group.

Humans and overpopulation are not the problem, it’s the systems that demand unlimited economic growth in a world with finite resources and the inaction of the powers that be.
