Dear Editor,

Re: “You Can’t Stop the Music — except in Richmond, apparently,” Letters, March 29.

I’m writing in response to Donald Grant’s article/response regarding the live music scene in Richmond.

While I do agree that there could be more venues for live music in the city, and we should allow buskers — I have to disagree with the statement made about how, apart from the Salmon Festival, there isn’t much.

In fact, Minoru Park hosts some of the best free/live music events I have actually ever been to.

For example, the Richmond World Festival (which has gone on for four consecutive years thus far) had some wonderful artists last year, in a range of different genres — including artists like Lights, Magic! & Desi Sub Culture to name a few.

As well, before I moved to Richmond I would often travel to Minoru Park to specifically watch a number of live performances, which in the past has included artists of international acclaim, such as Marianas Trench.

I would love to see a live music venue come to Richmond, but can’t help wonder if the aquatic centre was turned into a indoor-venue, how it would affect all the outdoor performances I’ve come to love at Minoru?
