Letter: Tree chopping a bad precedent for new Richmond council

Dear Editor, I walked my dog recently in my neighborhood (Westwind) and saw that on Woodpecker Street there was a 48-hour tree cut-down notice which said the tree’s roots would be compromised when the driveway next to the tree was fixed.

Dear Editor,

I walked my dog recently in my neighborhood (Westwind) and saw that on Woodpecker Street there was a 48-hour tree cut-down notice which said the tree’s roots would be compromised when the driveway next to the tree was fixed.

So, in anticipation of this, the city is cutting down this mature and healthy tree in a street of mature and healthy trees: probably one of a handful remaining in such streets in the city.

I hope this is not one of the signs of what is to come after the recently culminated civic election in Richmond.

This is not a good precedent for this street, this neighborhood and for our city.

As a resident, I wanted to ask the city why this tree was being cut and talk to some neighbours, but the city seemed to be moving fast.

I’m feeling powerless and anguished as a resident.
