Ministry seeks to clarify ‘asset management’ guidelines for school district_3

Dear Editor,

I’m writing on behalf of the grassroots group Richmond Schools Stands United. We wanted to thank all the parents, kids and community members who came out, despite the rain, to take a stand together on June 18 in front of MLA John Jap’s constituency office. Our collective voice has been heard by the province and other communities around B.C. experiencing the same threats of school closures.

On Saturday, over 10 schools were represented and we were fortunate to have Mr. Rob Fleming, NDP education critic, fly in especially for our event and speak to the deplorable state of our public education system due to the province’s unreasonable 95 per cent capacity mandate and years of cutbacks. B.C. has gone from the second best in the country to the second worst. The Liberal absence at our rally certainly underscored what many Richmond residents already feel. Public education is not a priority for this government.

We are not finished this fight, but rather just getting started. Together we have a stronger voice. Together we will demand change.
