Letter: Hong Guo is a straight shooter

Dear Editor, One of the important reasons why I support Hong Guo as mayor for Richmond is that I believe her to be a very professional and experienced lawyer, with an ability to solve the various social problems within our society.

Dear Editor,

One of the important reasons why I support Hong Guo as mayor for Richmond is that I believe her to be a very professional and experienced lawyer, with an ability to solve the various social problems within our society. She is younger than the current mayor yet has a rich experience in Canadian life.

Richmond has many new Canadian citizens and many new immigrants lack an understanding of Canada’s democratic electoral system. This being a big reason why the voting rate was so low in Richmond’s previous election.

The participation of Guo in the mayoral election is, in itself, the best representation of the Canadian democratic electoral system at work.

It will benefit the entire political democracy in Richmond society with the ability to diversify and promote the city’s economic development and international humanities and communication.

Recently,  the Richmond News published a series of negative articles about Guo.

For example, the newspaper reported: “Richmond lawyer Hong Guo announces bid for mayor, courts Chinese voters.”

Why does the newspaper think it is to win Chinese voters? Only Canadian citizens can vote in the mayoral elections in Richmond, is this not true?

May I remind you that Guo’s campaign slogan is “Mayor for All.”

Guo is an honest and diligent person who has a strong sense of social responsibility.

She is also very ethical in her business dealings. Through no fault of her own, more than $7 million was stolen from her account and, to her credit, she took all the loss onto herself and was responsible for maintaining her clients’ accounts so none of them would lose their business transactions. Does this not demonstrate her integrity?

Her political campaign is for the benefit of the public.

I personally have no prejudice against the incumbent mayor.

But, many of us will support Gou because we think the mayor needs to be energetic, quick-thinking, and have a multicultural background.
