Letter: City of Richmond serving a few, not the many

Dear Editor,

Re: “5M waste,” “Investment in bowling club doesn’t add up,” Letters, May 30.

I have to agree with Sam Parker and Geordie McGillivray in the May 30th issue that the city is wasting more than $5 million for 280 people.

I’ve had two daughters grow up on the Hugh Boyd soccer field and have watched hundreds of children and their families practicing and playing over the years since the fields opened.

When the West Richmond Community Centre is closed and there is still soccer going on, there are only two porta- potties available to the players and spectators.

It’s embarrassing when we are hosting visiting teams for league games, and all we have are two porta-potties that are often in disgusting/stinky condition (especially on a Sunday after being well used on the weekend).

Having visited so many other sports fields over the years with covered bleachers and flush washroom facilities, it is shocking that the city would rather spend taxpayer money on a few, as opposed to the many.
