Playing in her first competitive tournament in over a year, Alisha Lau was second at the B.C. Women's Amatuer in Nanaimo.

Alisha Lau came ever-so-close to pulling off a wire-to-wire victory at the B.C. Women’s Amateur, hosted by the Nanaimo Golf Club.

The 19-year-old Richmond standout was playing in her first competitive tournament in over a year following wrist surgery that resulted in her red-shirting her sophomore season at the University of Colorado. Still, Lau was in position for her first provincial women’s title before being over taken by Surrey’s Angel Li with just three holes to play.

The JN Burnett graduate saw her one shot lead evaporate when she triple-bogeyed the par-4 15th hole. Lin pulled even with a bogey and opened up a two-shot advantage, she never would relinquish, with a birdie on the par-5 16th.

Lu opened the championships with a 2-under 70 and stayed on top of the leaderboard with rounds of 74 and 73. She was on her way to another under-par round until the trouble on 15 and settled for a 74. Lin made her big move in Thursday’s third round with a 4-under 68.

The pair will be joined on the B.C. team by third place finisher Euna Han at the Canadian Amateur, slated for later this month in Red Deer.

Lau, who plays out of Marine Drive, came through the highly-successful junior program at Quilchena.

She won the B.C. Junior Girls title in 2017 and was a one-time member of Golf Canada’s women’s development team that helped pave her way to the scholarship offer at Colorado.
