The driver whose dashcam captured video of an apparent brawl in a Richmond parkade has denied the fight was staged.

There had been suggestions on social media that the video – posted on YouTube – was set up to promote dashcams, which the video poster sells for a living.

However, MJ, of MJ Installs, who didn’t want to give his last name, told the Richmond News he wasn’t in the business of creating videos.

“Why would I do that? said MJ, who posted the video on Saturday.

He said he was installing a dashcam in a vehicle across from his own car and camera – which filmed the fight – when the brawl among teenagers kicked off in the covered, Richmond Centre mall parking lot.

He said the fight was over pretty quickly and, as all parties seem to know each other and no one seemed to be hurt, he didn’t report it to the police.

Richmond RCMP said it has not received any reports about the incident or the video, which appears to show a group of youths filming two teenagers brawling on the ground.

On closer inspection, however, very few blows appear to be landed during the brief altercation and it looked more like a wrestling match than a fight.

Nevertheless, Richmond RCMP is encouraging anyone with information on the incident to come forward and is urging people, in general, to report incidents if they seem them.

Anyone with further information can call 604-278-1212 or, if you wish to make an anonymous report, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.solvecrime.ca.
