A gas line rupture has caused traffic congestion in the Sexsmith Road and Hazelbridge Way area in Richmond from 11 a.m. onwards.

City of Richmond spokesperson, Clay Adams, told the News that the gas line rupture appears to have been impacted by construction in the area, but is still under investigation.

“Fortis B.C. was quickly on deck to repair it,” said Adams.

As of 1:30 p.m., Fortis had shut off the gas and Richmond Fire-Rescue was on-site to check for other leaks or issues.

Adams said that a few people have been evacuated from their homes in the area.

Vehicles and pedestrians are asked to avoid the area at this time.
