Richmond and cities across Metro Vancouver is expecting periods of heavy rain and strong winds this upcoming week, according to Environment Canada.

Richmond and cities across Metro Vancouver is expecting periods of heavy rain and strong winds this upcoming week, according to Environment Canada.

In a special weather statement, a “series of vigorous frontal systems” is bringing heavy rain and wind for the first storm cycle of fall.

The weather change is forecasted to arrive to Vancouver Island on Tuesday and will spread to the mainland on Wednesday through Thursday.

On Tuesday, strong southeast winds of 60 to 80 km/hour are expected in the west coast of Vancouver Island.

The rain and wind will progress across the Straight of Georgia and surrounding regions early Wednesday morning with winds peaking at 50 to 70 km/hour.

The heavy rain and strong winds may lead to localized flooding and power outages, said Environment Canada in the statement.
