Richmond News Statement

The Richmond News stands by the accuracy of its stories regarding allegations of vote buying in the upcoming civic election.

The first version of the story published Oct. 11 stated the City of Richmond was investigating the allegations and did not include Hong Guo’s reaction to a screen shot of a Wechat post that was attributed to her. Oct. 12 the story was updated, and clearly marked as such, to include Guo’s comments, once the Richmond News reached her.

Meanwhile, a forged comment posted on Wechat wrongly attributed to a Richmond News reporter has been circulating on social media. The forgery has been reported to the City of Richmond, Richmond RCMP and Facebook. The reporter does not belong to the Wechat group Richmond Resident 7300 Focus Group II where this post was supposed to have originated.

Richmond News is proud of the fair and comprehensive coverage it has provided voters leading up to this election. We believe it is essential residents understand the issues as well as the candidates who are hoping to represent them.
