Richmond RCMP used every tool in the investigative shed to arrest a suspected prolific break-and-enter thief.

According to the Mounties, the “lengthy and painstaking investigation utilized every policing technique, tool, and technology available” to track down and arrest a 23-year-old man believed to be behind a series of break-ins in Richmond, spanning August 2018 to January 2019.

And last week, Shane Brandon Lee Takakenew, of Vancouver, was taken into custody and formally charged with 12 counts of break-and-enter.

He has been released on bail, however, with the following conditions:

• not to be within the City of Richmond;

• not to be on any private residential property unless it is owned or leased by him;

• not to possess any tool or instrument that can be used for criminal activity.

“We are releasing a photo of this individual in order to further our own investigations, obtain additional information from the community, and to prevent further offences,” said Sgt. Simon Lee, of Richmond RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit.

“We wish to re-assure the community that we never rest. If you observe Mr. Takakenew in breach of any of these conditions, contact us immediately.”
