Sandra Nixon is an ordained minister at the United Church, a mom of two and one of four new school board trustees in Richmond. April, 2015.

Trustee Sandra Nixon was acclaimed as the new chair of the Richmond Board of Education at Wednesday’s organizational meeting.

She replaced Ken Hamaguchi who served as board chair for the past two years.

On announcing he won’t be running for the chair position this year, Hamaguchi said his reasoning was that there were a number of other people capable of doing the job.

“It’s only fair other people get an opportunity to take on this role,” Hamaguchi said at the meeting.

Trustee Debbie Tablotney was acclaimed as vice-chair, while Trustee Heather Larson was acclaimed as the representative to the BC School Trustees Association.

Hamaguchi will be the representative to the BC Public School Employers’ Association.
