A public workshop on foreign signs was held in Richmond Thursday evening.
About 150 registered participants took part in a communications workshop to discuss how foreign signs — the vast majority of them in Chinese — affect community harmony and cross-cultural communications. Also discussed was whether a sign bylaw would be an effective step in solving the city's communication problem, that sometimes rears its ugly head in the form of racism. Most agreed it would, but also called on more leadership from politicians, as well as more education and community integration programming.
