A bus route extension that had previously been expected for this fall has now been pushed to next spring.

As part of the Mayors’ Council’s 10-year transportation plan for the Lower Mainland, the 418 bus route will be extended down Blundell Road to Zylmans Way, to service the industrial areas of East Richmond.

Originally, this service was expected to arrive mid-fall of 2018.

However, according to a TransLink spokesperson, construction delays along the road have pushed back the extension date beyond the transit authority's control.

City spokesperson, Ted Townsend, explained to the Richmond News by email that road construction along Blundell Road is being completed by Ecowaste as part of the Richmond Industrial Centre site development. However, the project encountered delays during construction.

As a result, “the completion of the bus loop that was planned on Zylmans Way has been delayed,” Townsend said.

The roadwork construction is expected to be completed around next May.

According to TransLink, once the road construction is complete, the bus route extension will be made shortly after.

Three major bus routes also saw changes this fall. The 402 (Two Road/Richmond-Brighouse Station) increased service to every 10 minutes, from every 12 minutes, between 7-8 a.m. The 403 (Three Road/Bridgeport Station) saw the same increases between 7-9 a.m., as well as 4-6 p.m. And the 401 (One Road/Richmond-Brighouse Station) now runs every eight minutes, from every nine minutes, between 7-9 a.m. and 5-6 p.m.
