A 23-year-old Coquitlam woman died on impact early Sunday morning after the Honda coupe she was travelling in collided with a 2014 Audi R8 at the corner of No. 4 Road and Westminster Highway.

“We are in the very early stages of our investigation. We can state that speed is a definitely a factor,” said Cpl. Dennis Hwang, via a news release Sunday.

“We greatly appreciate those people who stopped to render aid and those that provided information to further our investigation,” added Hwang.

At around 12:30 a.m. the 2007 Honda Civic had been travelling eastbound on Westminster when it collided with the westbound-travelling 550-horsepower Audi.

Damage to the Audi appeared to be to its front, while most of the damage to the Honda was on its side, where the woman would have been sitting.

The driver of the Honda as well as another passenger were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and have since been released.

The driver of the Audi appeared uninjured, said police.

A third vehicle, a 2013 Toyota Venza, that was stopped on No. 4 Rd (heading southbound), was struck by the Honda in a secondary collision. Its driver also appeared uninjured, said police.

Police noted an investigation is being headed by the Richmond RCMP Road Safety Unit (RSU) along with assistance from the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) and the BC Coroner’s Service.
