A pedestrian is in hospital with critical injuries after being hit by a Volkswagen Beetle in Richmond Saturday morning.

At around 9 a.m. near No. 3 Road and Alderbridge Way, a 22-year-old Richmond man was hit while he was “not on the roadway,” according to Richmond RCMP. The driver of the 1990s Volkswagen was an 18-year-old woman from Kamloops.

The pedestrian was quickly taken to hospital where he is still recovering from serious injuries. The driver suffered from minor injuries.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dennis Hwang said by email that, at the time, “the debris field (was) widespread and required a large area to be cordoned off for multiple hours.”

Richmond RCMP Criminal Crash Investigation Team is now investigating with the ICARs unit and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage is asked to contact Const. Z. Sharoom of the Richmond RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team at 604-278-1212 and quote file #2019-3977.
