‘Near zero’ visibility due to fog in Richmond

Environment Canada has issued a fog advisory

Heavy fog reduced visibility in Richmond and Delta Monday morning.

Heavy fog has blanketed Richmond and Delta, affecting visibility for commuters Monday morning.

From the Canada Line, the normally pleasant morning vista looking out over the Fraser River was instead a sheet of light grey fog.

According to Environment Canada, there’s a strong inversion over the South Coast that’s trapped the fog over the Strait of Georgia.

“Near zero visibility in fog is expected or occurring,” the weather agency said in a fog advisory statement.

Conditions are expected to improve somewhat in the afternoon. Monday evening, drier flow-out winds from the Fraser Valley should push the fog back out over the water.

Communities in the Gulf Islands and on Vancouver Island, however, can expect fog to persist near the water until Tuesday.
