RCMP are seeking the public’s help to locate a suspect after an officer was dragged by a vehicle during a traffic stop on Sunday morning.
Around 9:30, a Mountie stopped a suspicious vehicle near No. 3 Road and Steveston Highway. After the officer approached the vehicle, the driver fled and dragged them, causing significant injuries.
The officer was taken to hospital following the incident but has since been discharged and is now recovering at home.
RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dennis Hwang told the Richmond News that people from around the world reached out to the Richmond detachment to express their well-wishes for the officer.
“We’re so overjoyed that people reached out to us,” he said. “It really helps us.”
As of Wednesday, Richmond RCMP and other local law enforcement are still looking for a four-door, dark coloured, late model Mercedes Benz. It is believed the vehicle has tinted windows and a black interior.
There may be damage to the driver’s side of the vehicle or a crack on its windshield.
“Still be on the lookout for that vehicle,” Hwang said. “It might have been dumped somewhere or somebody might have seen it, something unusual or might have seen it in an area where it might not normally belong.”
Members of the public are asked to call 911 immediately if they locate the vehicle or have any additional information.

We are so moved by the outpouring of support & kindness. Special thanks to medical staff that cared for our officer. Hearing “officer in distress” over the radio is a stark reminder of the nature of our work, but our connection to the communities in which we proudly serve.
