Canada Post says it’s continuing its rotating walkouts across the country, including one at the Richmond-based Pacific Processing Centre that began on Friday.

Canada Post says the shutdown of the Richmond processing centre will cause significant service disruptions and add to a backlog of trailers filled with parcels that have yet to be sorted for distribution.

“Canada Post will make every effort to minimize the impact, but customers across the country will continue to see delays for parcel and mail delivery,” the postal union said in a press release.

“We thank our customers for their continued patience and apologize for the inconvenience this is causing.”

Since beginning rotating strikes on Oct. 22, Canada Post says the union strikes have shut down operations in more than 200 communities.

In spite of the presence of a special mediator, Canada Post’s national president, Mike Palecek, said that contract talks made little progress in recent weeks. That mediator’s mandate expired Sunday.

Last week, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau warned the federal government could intervene if progress isn't made soon.
